pine resin, jojoba oil, carnauba wax
These wraps are made with natural vegetable waxes instead of beeswax! Why? Because pine resin we’ve added gives the wraps additional preserving qualities and that’s a win-win for both you and the bees!
We’ve tinkered with the formulation to create a wax blend that makes your food wraps pliable with just the right amount of stickiness. Use it to wrap your sandwich, to cover a bowl or jug, or wrap a piece of food to keep it fresh longer. They’re a great alternative to plastic wrap and are natural, compostable and re-usable!
And unlike most kits, we give you everything you need to make these awesome food wraps: the wax blend, fabric, brush and even the baking paper. Most kits will give you just the wax and instructions, but we want you to actually be able to make them! Like right now! No need to go and buy the fabric or go looking for a suitable brush to use. Turn on the oven, melt the wax and make your wraps!
The wax blend is made with pine resin, jojoba oil and carnauba wax. “Resin is a chemical and physical defensive barrier secreted by many plants, especially coniferous trees, with insecticidal and antimicrobial properties.” (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0100740) By adding pine resin to your food wraps, it gives them the same antimicrobial qualities and helps keep nasties away from your food.
Carnauba wax (Copernicia Cerifera) is a natural eco-friendly vegetable wax, sustainably harvested from the leaves of a plant native to South America. It is used in both food and cosmetic industries due to it being hypoallergenic, its versatile use, and it’s high melting point.
And lastly, we add a natural vegetable oil to make the wrap more supple and pliable. The reason we chose jojoba oil is that, technically, it is not an oil strictly speaking, but rather a liquid wax, and for that reason it is extremely shelf-stable and doesn’t go rancid (oxidise) like most oils will over time.
The kit contains enough fabric to make 2-4 wraps, depending on the size you cut it. And there is an extra portion of wax for making more.
